PERFORMANCES, MASTER CLASSES, FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY EVENTS
Dance City Festival (DCF), formerly known as Detroit Dance City Festival, is an annual community building event that celebrates dance in its various forms and disciplines. Now in its thirteenth year in Detroit and first year in Chicago and New York, DCF includes performances, master classes, and networking opportunities all held in the vibrant cities of Detroit, Chicago and New York. Our mission is to educate diverse audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network linking the greater US and the world!
Each year, DCF brings the work of renowned local, national, and international performing artists, choreographers, and companies to the stage in its exciting “Choreographers Showcase”, “Dance and Celebration”, and “College Showcase” performances. Throughout the festivals, DCF also hosts a variety of Master Classes taught by leading practitioners of diverse styles of dance. DCF-Detroit further welcomes the work of dance filmmakers in the festivals “Dance On Screen”.
Thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts, DCF-Detroit’s programs have expanded beyond the museum walls to include outdoor events and performances, such as the “Rivera Court Stage” free and open to all. DCF-Detroit’s Summer Stage event invites festival participants, families, dancers, and public audiences alike to enjoy live performances and participate in a variety of outdoor creative movement activities, bringing our community together in celebration of dance.
DCF continues to reach an ever-broadening audience through its international collaborative project, the Festival Exchange Program, spearheaded by DCF’s parent organization ArtLab J. Offering artists the unique opportunity to perform their work at partnering festivals both in the US and abroad, this program seeks to promote intercultural exchange while advancing the city of Detroit as an international hub for the art of dance.
